About the Project
The City of Irving, TX, is building a new tactical training center—an indoor, 25-lane, 100-yard range located next to the Irving Grand Prairie Fire Rescue Training Center. This facility will give officers direct access to advanced scenario-based training to enhance situational awareness and decision-making.

What We Did
The Dallas–Fort Worth region sits on top of highly expansive soil, and the location of Irving’s new tactical training center is no different. With exposure to environmental moisture, expansive soil can swell beneath structures, pushing upwards and outwards with thousands of pounds of pressure per square inch. This swell poses a threat to the future structure and its underground utility systems.
To mitigate these risks, the project’s plumbing contractor, Fix A Drip out of Mesquite, Texas, installed the PlumbingVoid® and integrated Super Hanger™ systems. Placed beneath the slab, the PlumbingVoid system isolates critical utilities from soil movement, ensuring the pressure of expansive soils is applied to the system, not the pipes suspended inside. Once installed, Burton’s Mechanical, Inc, the general contractor on the project, had VoidForm visit the site and survey the final install.
PlumbingVoid has helped ensure Irving’s new tactical training center remains an effective public safety resource throughout its structural lifespan.
