About the Project

The Lock at Flatirons is a centrally located community living complex with 1, 2 & 3-bedroom apartments in Broomfield, CO. Started in 2021, which was the 7th wetter winter on record for the area, Shaw Construction sought to specify a weatherproof solution to mitigate the risk of the site’s expansive soil. They also needed to find a supplier that could manage the unique challenges their construction site access posed.

What We Did

Leading up to construction at the Lock at Flatirons, Broomfield, the year started off as one of the wettest years on record for the Denver and Boulder area. The wet conditions lasted through the end of May and threatened to delay the construction schedule.

With the site facing constant weather-related onslaughts, Shaw Construction, the project’s general contractor, needed to find a weatherproof solution for the planned below-grade construction on expansive soils.

Shaw Construction contacted VoidForm, which supplied StormVoid, a durable, waterproof void form system. This system was specifically designed to create the required permanent void spaces under the slab, and its adaptability ensured it could withstand even the wettest site conditions.

The Lock at Flatirons was also a logistically challenging location, as it had very restricted site access. The VoidForm team worked with Shaw Construction to provide smaller, delivered containers, which were dropped on-site on an as-needed basis. Void Form ensured regular, timely trailer drops and no related delays in the project timeline.
