About the Project
The Modular Home Factory in Boulder is the result of a partnership between the city of Boulder, Boulder Valley School District, and Flatirons Habitat for Humanity. The 31,375-square-foot affordable housing modular factory will eventually build upwards of 50 modular homes annually for the surrounding region. But before any home building, the city and its partners had to address extremely expansive soil detected on the former Ponderosa Mobile Home Park land they had purchased for this project.

What We Did
The VoidForm team worked closely with the partners and general contractor to solve the extremely expansive soil, which was reported by the geotechnical engineers across the property. SureVoid and PlumbingVoid systems were installed throughout the 31,000-square-foot build site, with creative solutions developed for a few of the project’s more unique design characteristics using 18″ voids.
In this case, the concrete pour schedule aligned with Boulder’s dry season, which meant the project was able to install SureVoid, an economical and degradable void form product, throughout. During the project, with concrete work spanning more than five months, VoidForm ensured timely deliveries to reduce project delays. The service team maintained ongoing support and collaboration with the partners at every point of the project.
